Hon Ntam James, received the
widest acclamation from the population of Boyo division, during the maiden
visit of Governor Lele Lafrique to Fundong. This was last Wednesday July 4, at
the Fundong council hall during a working session. The Boyo MP told Governor
Lele Lafrique that he would find the conditions for a department of the University of Bamenda, “so perfect” in Boyo.
“Nobody had mentioned anything about the
University of Bamenda”, Hon Ntam began, adding that “I want to stand here to state that we are all of the North West and we
know there are great lobbying efforts being made round the North West for the
University to be decentralized”.
The Boyo MP
further told the Governor in the presence of his people that “I was singularly impressed when the Governor
said, in coming to Fundong, he saw the roads so smooth, smoother than any other
division; he found the hills so attractive”. Then Hon Ntam landed: “I want to say he will also find the
conditions for a department of that university so perfect”.
Worthy to note
that the decentralization of the University of Bamenda within the two weeks
that the new North West Governor had been familiarizing himself with the seven
divisions of the region. The respective mayors/elite vouched to see
faculties/schools of the University
of Bamenda, hosted in
their respective divisions. In Kumbo (Bui), Mayor Njong requested the School of Veterinary Medicine; in Mbengwi (Momo)
Mayor Tah George Mbah requested some faculties and urged that the architectural
Soa-like structures of ENIET-Mbengwi be exploited to that effect.
If the Mayor of
Nkambe (Donga/Mantung) Jones Tankoh Mangoh, his counterpart of Ndop
(Ngoketunjia) Dr. Daniel Ntoh and the mayor of Wum (Menchum) Charles Njukwe
made no overtures, elite from these divisions have been clamouring. In Ngoketunjia
for instance, Dingha Ignatius Bayen, the dynamic president for NGODECA has
championed the crusade for the school
of Animal Husbandry and
Fisheries in Ngoketunjia; Dr. Nick Ngwanyam has been outspoken for the school
of Agriculture in Nkambe; while Buh Sule Tegah told Chronicle that there is need to transform the former premises of
WADA in Wum into a faculty/school of the University of Bamenda.
The Fundong lap
of Governor Lele Lafrique’s visit was spectacular given the massive turn out
and rich exchanges registered. Hon Ntam exploited the working session to wail
over the issue of the lack of a medical doctor for the Bum sub divisional area:
“What if there is a cholera outbreak in
Fonfuka?” Hon Ntam questioned.
The Boyo MP
also regretted the abandon of touristic sites like the Kimbi game reserve, and
the Ijim mountain forest. He also urged for the reclassification of chiefs and
ardoretes and advised that they be trained in a seminar on conflict
resolutions. Hon Ntam also harped on security, requesting the creation of a
police post at Bum sub division. Then Hon Ntam wrapped-up his intervention in
these words:
“Mr. Governor, I wish that your maiden visit
to Boyo is a broad-daylight to carry out the changes that would move Boyo
forward; so that we also belong to the dream of emerging as a major economy in
2035”.
Hon Evaristus
Njong, another of the Boyo MPs on his part, was uncomfortable with the last
population census statistics for Boyo. He wondered why Belo was 54.000
yesterday but today is 40.000; how Bum sub division registered 14.000 people on
the electoral register with a population of 17.000. To this, he said “no matter the migration pattern, there is
something wrong somewhere”.
Hon Njong also
cried out why Boyo only had just 1km of urban road that is tarred. He also
urged Governor Lele Lafrique to dig out to know the truth why the thermal
plant, a gift from President Paul Biya has not been functional.
