All is set for Kumbo, the
divisional headquarters of Bui division to be carved out as a city council. A
presidential insider hinted Chronicle
last week that proposals had even been made as to the likely elite, who can man
the newly created Kumbo city council. This, Chronicle
was further told, would be pellucid with the creation of new administrative
units. Accordingly, it is the postponement of the legislative/municipal
elections for 2013 that has slowed down things, Chronicle was further told. Yet, the case of Kumbo, we gathered is
as clear as daylight. Before the next municipal/legislative elections, Kumbo
would be assigned with a government delegate. By press time, 10 names have been
projected for the job.
News about the
imminent appointment of a government delegate for Kumbo, had since been
received with mixed feelings in Kumbo. Could it be Donatus Njong? Many have
questioned. Yet, as Chronicle is
aware, it remains the exclusive right of the Head of State to appoint a government
delegate, directors of public corporations, members of government, governors,
senior divisional officers and divisional officers.
The issue of
the creation of a city council in Kumbo, has received mixed reactions. Following
Chronicle’s sampling, majority of
residents of Kumbo are contented with the trappings of the SDF mayor, Donatus
Fonyuy Njong. They say he has done a lot for Kumbo and has the will to do
better, if given the opportunity.
A lesser
faction of Kumbo residents hailed any move to transform Kumbo into a city
council. What Chronicle sampled was
the fact that with a city council, government allocates special funds to
transform the area into a veritable city. Chronicle
sampled that what would be provided would not be raised by a local mayor, who
in himself is of the opposition SDF. Kumbo residents actually want their
streets tarred, a move mayor Njong has not been able to carry out.
There have been
underground moves to carve out Kumbo into three (3) sub divisional council
areas, to warrant it become a city council. A presidential text is pending to
carve out Kumbo I (Tobin); Kumbo II (Mveh) and Kumbo III (Kimbu) into the three
(3) sub divisional council areas. Then a government delegate lords over all,
despite the fact atht the 3 councils would have mayors, like in Bamenda, Limbe,
Kumba, Yaounde,
Douala etc.
Projected Gov’t Dels
All government delegates have
been CPDM bootlickers, even though the text states that the opinion of the
local has to be sought. If this is done, within the context of Kumbo, then the
name to emerge would be that of Njong Donatus Fonyuy. Yet, CPDM diehards hold
hat with a city council created, it would be their opportunity to reap. Aware
about the unexpected, Chronicle
gathered that SDF has been floating the name of Shey Lukong Pius. He is a
progressist within SDF and levelheaded/flexible.
Yet, CPDM
diehards in Kumbo have been floating other names:
John Kuvinyuy
is an ex-MINEDO cadre, presently in business in Kumbo. He is highly tipped.
Sir Asah
Mbenkum is the Bui Divisional Delegate for Basic Educaiton. He is a gentleman
by its name and a development luminary. He militates with CPDM.
Shey Tobias
Bunyuy is former cadre in the ministry of Transport. Considered as a
philanthropist, he had rarely pulsated to this attribute, ever since he was
relieved of his lucrative functions at Transport.
Shey Mashu is
the CPDM section president for Bui I (Kumbo). He alleged to be the brain behind
the imminent creation of a city council for Kumbo. Yet, his handicap is that he
is unlettered. He may shortlist someone, who could be giving him contracts, he
being a contractor.
Shey Ngong
Justin is now a CPDM apostle, having quit SDF given, intrigues of Mayor Njong.
Shey Ngong Justin is a contractor especially with AES-SONEL. He understands the
politics of Kumbo and would no doubt make a good government delegate.
Shey Tasha
Lawrence is down but not out. One time section president and general manager of
the defunct Amity Bank. What he did to Bui sons, remains a legacy. To appease
him after his loss of Amity Bank, he could be appointed pioneer government
delegate for Kumbo city.
Mme Aberyuy
Priscillia is principal of GBHS Kumbo. She could be, but is a light weight.
Kimbi Wilfred
is principal of GSS Melim. He like Nnoko Mbele in Kumba and Abel Ndeh in
Bamenda could become government delegates, yet he is still doubted.
Shey Fidelis
Wecom is another of those tipped.
