Controversy Mars NW SDF/NEC Elections - Fru Ndi Accused of Open Campaigning For Annembom Against Hon Fobi; Hon Njong Dribbles Diana Ambufei Too

By Tetuh Mbah
Last weekend was very pre-occupying for the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF in Bamenda. It began with provincial elections and National Executive Committee NEC primaries; then the G-7 meeting, culminating in a NEC meeting. Yet, the key point was not only G-7 but NEC/provincial elections. This was where Ni John Fru Ndi, the SDF National Chairman openly took sides with Beatrice Annembom Munjo for the NEC position of Communication Secretary. Also, vitriolics were emitted when the candidacy of Diana Ambufei, outgone vice provincial chairlady was campaigned against, for re-election.
Prior to the election of NEC North West members to vie at the October 12-14, 2012 convention in Bamenda, Fru Ndi openly campaigned for Beatrice Annembom Monju. He said she has stood by the SDF for the past 20 years and even sacrificed her job at CRTV. This was in apparent rebuke of Hon Simon Nchinda Fobi, who challenged her. Worthy to note, that Hon Fobi at one time expressed ambitions to become SDF chairman, an attempt Fru Ndi has never taken lightly. Meanwhile, Diana Ambufei believes that she was elbowed by Hon Evaristus Njong not to be retained as vice chairlady.
After the dissolution of the North West SDF provincial executive some time in April 2011, the region has at last picked a new executive. The new executive headed by Hon Njong Evaristus, was elected on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the St. Joseph Metropolitan Cathedral hall during the provincial conference.
The unexpected news at the conference was the election of two practicing journalists- Grace Ngwafor of Abakwa FM radio and Chris Mbunwe who were elected provincial communication officers and vice respectively. They beat the incumbents, Kaba Charles and one Stalay Numfor respectively.
Other elected officials were; Hon Esther Ngala- Treasurer and Haja Patu as vice, Balick Awah Fidelis- Financial Secretary, Mayor Fonguh Cletus- Organizing secretary, Muluh Gideon-Secretary among others.
The former provincial executive was dissolved when NEC applied Art. 18.2 in April 8, 2011 when the majority of the executive members passed a vote of not confidence on the then provincial chairman, Kum Henry Ichu who finally decamped to the ruling CPDM party, hence the life of the provincial SDF party activities was seen to be threatened.
Talking to Chronicle on the sideline of the occasion, the provincial chairman elect, Hon Njong Evaristus vowed to regain all the parliamentary seats in his region of command. He opined that he was going to ensure that no one rigs the election in the upcoming twin elections come 2013.
According to Hon Njong Evaristus, his team will draw a plan of action to ensure that each and every body gets registered for SDF to sweep all the parliamentary seats and councils of the region in 2013.
In the primaries into the national executive committee (NEC), the incumbent national chairman of the party, Ni John Fru Ndi was elected by acclamation. He contested the national chairmanship unopposed.
The highlight of the NEC primaries was when Annembom Monju bagged 198 votes as against 90 for Hon Fobi Nchinda. Both of them went in for national communication officers.
Others who won the Friday August 24 NEC primaries in the North West were Junka Jonathan- auditor, Mayor Mangoh Jones- Education affairs, Mayor Langsi Abel- financial secretary including Margaret Kingah, and Denis Kwaven and lot more.
The national SDF convention has been built from October 12 to 14, 2012 after all the provincial primaries
