Walter Lippman, a renowned
theorist in public administration once opined, “The final test of a leader is
that he leaves behind him in other men, the conviction and the will to carry
on” This statement actually represents one of Cameroon’s refined Civil
Administrator, Peter Tieh Ndeh, Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for Ndian
Division who through his exemplary performances as an administrator is leaving
positive rippling effects in the minds of young administrators. It is
universally acknowledged that administration is the same the world over since
it revolves around the governance of people. In spite of this truism,
administrators differ depending on their inert abilities and God given talents.
Equally circumstances change and people change, thus requiring proactive
decisions from administrators to manage prevailing circumstances. Peter Tieh
Ndeh is an administrator with superlative qualities. He is an epitome of serenity
which is a necessary virtue in administration because in administration panic
should be completely ruled out. Yet Peter Tieh Ndeh does not like the mundane
way of doing things. He does not follow where the path leads but goes instead
where there is no path and leaves a trail. But who actually is this man who is
creating the unexpected in civil administration?
Peter Tieh Ndeh hails from
Bafanji in the North West Region. He is a well cut gentleman with a handsome
face. His has a straight physically built figure and by any generous
description is very handsome. His ever bright face that hardly habours a frown
is a reflection of his intelligence while his soft-spoken and serene voice
reflects his sincerity, maturity, confidence and inner purity of heart. His
apparent sternness and perhaps strictness should never be interpreted as
wickedness but as inborn and cultivated principles of somebody who is born to
lead. In fact Peter Tieh Ndeh is a born leader, because if your actions inspire
others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
This is just Peter Tieh Ndeh and thank God he has been given the opportunity to
lead God’s flock in Ndian Division. How did he become so unique?
Education and hard work have been
the strongest pillars of Peter Tieh Ndeh’s success story today. He was not born
with a silver spoon in his mouth but he decided to look for one through his own
efforts. And he knew that the only key that could unlock the door to success
was education and hard work. He applied himself at a tender age and got all the
education he needed. Unlike his peers who were contented gleaning through
education and garnering certificates for their sake, Peter Tieh Ndeh made up
his mind and was focused to become an administrator. He did not just dream and
folded his arms and waited for it to happen. He made it happened. What is
important today is not that he is an administrator. What is of paramount
importance is his exemplary billboard as an administrator.
The secret of success is enthusiasm and to know
something nobody else knows. Peter Tieh Ndeh is a human being and knows that he
is not infallible. This is an asset for unlike most administrators that claim
to be all-knowing; Peter Tieh Ndeh has a listening ear and is available for
collaboration. His collaborative attitude where he thinks everybody is a
colleague and not a subordinate is rare in public administration. This is what
has endeared him to everybody and younger administrators are borrowing a leaf
from him in governance. There is no gainsaying that Peter Tieh Ndeh is a
seasoned administrator haven paraded the corridors of administration for long.
North westerners will never forget Peter Tieh Ndeh as the Secretary General in
the North West Governor’s office that was always on time at all occasions that
he presided and very incisive in his speeches. They will equally not forget him
as he was very humble, conversational and sociable. He carried these inert
virtues to the South West Region where he equally served as Secretary General in
the Governor’s office. While some administrators pass through positions
unnoticed, people like Peter Tieh Ndeh always leave a positive mark in
administration and in the minds of people. Fans of Tiko United Football club
still have fresh memories of Peter Tieh Ndeh who as SG of the Region galvanised
support for the team and chaired the fund raising for the club that yielded
FCFA 14.5 million. What actually makes Peter Tieh Ndeh stand out from the
madding crowd is his proactive sense of duty. He is very innovative and daring.
This is certainly the qualities that attracted the powers that be to appoint
him as SDO of Ndian Division, where his sense of development could help
developed the newly acquired Bakassi peninsula.
Peter Tieh Ndeh’s Superlative Billboard In
Ndian Division
Rightly or wrongly most people consider Ndian
Division as the most enclave of all the Divisions of the South West Region.
This might have been true before, but not after the arrival of Peter Tieh Ndeh
at the helm of that Division. He has not waited in his office to receive
reports about his jurisdiction from his collaborators. He has taken the bull by
the horns to personally tour the Division, have an on-the-spot appraisal of its
needs and address them accordingly. He has preached peaceful coexistence to the
population of Ndian and has accelerated its development through dialogue with
all developmental stakeholders. Most especially Peter Tieh Ndeh who is a
respecter of tradition has brought traditional rulers together, reminding them
that development has no political or traditional connotation. This approach has
greatly depolarised Ndian Division as everybody is concern with development.
What makes Peter Tieh Ndeh unique in
administration is his sense of direction. Before he takes any decision, he
consults most collaborators and this has always avoided clashes that could
frustrate government development efforts in Ndian Division. What is making news
now is the fast development drive of the Bakassi peninsula. Peter Tieh Ndeh is
the person providing the impulse and many development projects are being
executing by government and foreign development partners like the European
Union. Peter Tieh Ndeh is aware that people perish because of ignorance. This
is why he was very upbeat about the installation of a community radio in
the Bakassi peninsula by UNESCO. And he was personally present in Isangele
during the installation of Bakassi FM. In the presence of Benoit Sosso,
UNESCO Resident Representative, SDO Peter Tieh Ndeh urged the population of
Bakassi to avail themselves of the radio station as it will inform, entertain
and educate them.
Peter Tieh Ndeh is working in
tandem with Jacob Lekunze, President of the follow up committee for the
implementation of priority projects in the Bakassi Peninsula.
Here Peter Tieh Ndeh is very uncompromising with any person who wants to toy
with the projects earmarked for the Bakassi peninsula. He has been putting
contractors at an edge, promising or meting serious sanctions on recalcitrant
ones. The Bakassi peninsula is made up of four subdivisions: Isangele, Kombo
Abedimo, Kombo Itindi and Idabato. It has a population of over 300,000
inhabitants. The new government development scheme for the area has
incorporated Bamusso subdivision into the Bakassi development programme.
Peter Tieh Ndeh is a development
propeller, reason he frowns at those who are not taking the development of
Ndian Division seriously. When he was SG in NW and SW he was always aghast with
those who were not serious about the development of their areas. This is
because he himself is a developer. He is always present where people of his
village talk development and is ready to contribute generously for development
projects.
If Peter Tieh Ndeh is considered
a role model today it is because of his ambidextrous abilities to handle
multitudes of assignments without confusing one for the other. Be it in
administration or any other sector of public life he always serves as a role
model. This is because Peter Tieh Ndeh is a hard working person. He believes fervently
that anything worth doing should be well done or it should not be done at all.
As an administrator he hardly leaves what he has to do today for tomorrow, thus
no files sleeps on his table. He is a perfectionist who wants the best in
anything not because he is selfish or greedy but because according to him you
should always aimed at the best so that at the worse you should have the
better.
But above all, Peter Tieh Ndeh is
very humble. Unlike people of his social status who are unnecessarily unavailable,
claiming to be always occupied, Peter Tieh Ndeh is always available and
sociable. He enjoys the company of the down trodden. He listens to everybody
and is ever ready to extend a helping hand where there is distress. His
generosity knows no bounds as he is considered as a philanthropist who likes
sharing the little God has blessed him with with those who are less unfortunate
in life. Mr. SDO keep up for the young look up to you especially as your career
is still ahead of you.
