- SDF Proposal For Commission on Enquiry Over 1995 Plane Crash Secures
97-11 Votes
By Musa Isa
If John Fru Ndi, the SDF National
Chairman ever thought of a re-marriage with Adamu Ndam Njoya or Jean Jacques
Ekindi, then last week would be joltive. A proposal tabled by the SDF
parliamentary group, for a commission of Enquiry to be created over the 1995
plane crash, was crushed. It had been crushed at the level of the committee,
yet the plenary had to make things straight.
The motion only
received the blessing of 11 members of parliament. Implicitly, only the 11 SDF
MPs that were present, voted for it while 97 others were against. Chronicle
learnt that amongst the 97, not only CPDM and UNDP militants that are in an
alliance voted against: that CDU MPs of Adamu Ndam Njoya and Jean Jacque
Ekindi, were against the impeachment of Tchiroma.
The outcome of
last week’s plenary session is what Chronicle gathered angered Ntarinkon.
Accordingly, Fru Ndi is quoted to have tacitly acknowledged that his recent
alliance with Ndam Njoya had been x-rayed with last week’s vote in parliament.
It was Hon
Joseph MbahNdam, one of the vice presidents at the National Assembly and a Fru
Ndi stooge, who submitted the proposal. It is believed that it could not have
been done without the consent of Fru Ndi.
Though the
proposal was rejected at the level of the committee, having been accepted by
the Chairman’s conference, Chronicle
gathered that the plenary became the judge. It was here that SDF secured just
11 votes as against 97 for others in the house.
A Ntarinkon
insider told Chronicle last weekend
that with the vote, Fru Ndi had become more stern in his dealings. Chronicle was further told that Fru Ndi
saw his defeat as a bridge in an alliance, which he reluctantly foxed out
recently. Both Fru Ndi and Ndam Njoya, met for the first time after several
years of disagreement, only after the outcome of last year’s presidential
elections.
Fru Ndi and
Ndam Njoya again were in one accord in Foumban recently, to denounce the new
electoral code and propagated a boycott of their participation at the last May
20th manifestations nationwide. The move worked well, yet, SDF is
yet to understand why CDU stands against it in parliament.
MbahNdam had
proposed the creation of a parliamentary commission of enquiry over the 1995
CAMAIR plane crash. It was the detained Marafa Hamidou Yaya, who brought out in
his fourth (4th) letter that funds meant to compensate families of
the 71 victims of the crash had been siphoned. Marafa singled out Isa Tchiroma,
Minister of Communication who at that time was Minister of Transport.
Marafa alleged
that some 32 billion FCFA which was handed to Tchiroma in 1995 to handle the
disaster, had been unaccountable. SDF exploited this disclosure to pen for the
creation of a parliamentary commission of enquiry over the issue. The proposal
had since been thrown out.
Meanwhile,
another proposal by Hon Nintcheu, SDF vice parliamentary group leader and MP
for Wouri had no headway. Hon Nitcheu opted for the lifting of the immunity of
President Paul Biya, so that he stands trial over allegations made by Marafa in
his letters. But as MbahNdam’s proposal was thrown out, there was no headway
but hot air, being made by Hon Nitcheu.
