Life is a mixture of trials and
tribulations but great people look beyond trials and tribulations. They look
beyond the horizon that appears to be the end of the world and see other
opportunities that nobody imagines can exists. And their singular act of
dreaming, acting and realizing the dreams have positive multiplier effect on
society. This is because they are born leaders. And the very essence of
leadership is that you have to have vision since you can’t blow an uncertain trumpet.
Nevertheless, innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.
Franklin Ngoni Ikome Njie the newly designated Acting General Manager of the
Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC is a born leader with an untainted
vision. But unlike ordinary visionaries who see far and remain on their
original position, Franklin Ngoni walks his vision. As Director of Technical
Services in CDC, Franklin
has rumbled of serious innovative ideas that have kept CDC afloat, succeeding
where others have fumbled, stumbled and tumbled over. But who actually is this
rare innovator?
Franklin Ngoni Ikome Njie was
born in Bokwai Village Buea on April 4, 1964. He enrolled in Cameroon Baptists
Convention, CBC Great Soppo Buea at a tender age of 5 years and obtained his First School
leaving Certificate in 1976. His insatiable quest for knowledge took him to GSS
Victoria where he obtained the GCE O Levels in flying colours. While most of
his classmates were contented with the GCE O Levels, Franklin Ngoni thought he
had not started yet. He travelled to the North West Region where he enrolled in
CCAST Bambili and left behind him unbeatable academic records. He was one of
the few that left CCAST Bambili and immediately obtained a government
scholarship to study civil engineering in Germany. While in Germany Franklin
Ngoni did not let slip pass him an opportunity to fine-tune his knowledge in
Civil Engineering. He oscillated between institutions and structures that
offered him training in Civil Engineering and finally bagged a Master in Civil
Engineering. He later obtained an MBA in Germany. But unlike most of his
peers that remained in Germany
after their studies because the grass was greener that way, the patriotic
Franklin Ngoni Ikome decided to come back home and put his expertise at the
service of his fatherland Cameroon.
Back in Cameroon Franklin Ngoni
Ikome was absorbed by CDC in 1996 as a Civil Engineer in the CDC Technical
Services. His exemplary attitude and professional prowess pushed him up to the
position of Civil Works Service Manager in 1998. A position he held for two
years and was catapulted to the position of Director of Technical Services, a
position he has used to reform the Civil Service department of CDC. Between
2002 and 2012, Franklin Ngoni Ikome has been the pivot on which CDC has been
anchored as far as innovative reforms have been concerned. Always leaning a
listening ear to the General Manager, Chief Henry Njalla Quan, this Director of
Technical Service is credited the for the implementation of most of the innovative
ideas that has kept CDC going. Today the Makossa banana is a household name in
the world market. CDC is breaking even and salaries of workers are regularly
paid with even the introduction of the 13th month.
Chief Njalla Quan has in Franklin
Ngoni Ikome Njie and able lieutenant to fight the battle of fake certificates
in CDC. Although resistance ensued when those with doubtful credentials were
being screened, Franklin Ngoni who is a realist has remained very focused,
pursuing with zeal his project of innovation in CDC. He knows CDC very well and
has with the general manager taken bold steps like the Illoani Oil mill
project, the Boa palm Project, the Matuke rubber estate, the introduction of
the Hyrdaform low cost housing scheme, the extension of CDC to Mamfe, Donga
Mantung and the south Region.
In spite of his successes,
Franklin Ngoni Ikome Njie remains a very humble person. This God fearing
appointed Deacon of Nazareth Baptist Church Tiko puts God first in all his
endeavours. He is an administrator with a humane approach to every decision.
Unlike people who have attained his status who advertently become arrogant and
snobbish, Franklin Ngoni Ikome is a down to earth personality who enjoys
sharing in the joys and sorrows of others. He is extremely generous and can be
rightly considered a philanthropist. He is a very loving father who leads an
exemplary Christian life. He is always ready to teach through examples and is
very slow to rebuke and fast to appreciate his collaborators. His approach to
administration void of rancor has endeared him to many workers of CDC.
Designated Acting General Manager, by the Board, Franklin Ngoni Ikome Njie’s
sense of vision and direction will permit him to sail through and hold the
reins of manager firm until the return of his mentor Chief Henry Njalla Quan.
