NEC Divided As Fru Ndi to Decide
By Tetuh MbahNearly two months after the last ordinary national convention of the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF wrapped-up in Bamenda, a deadline still ensues. John Fru Ndi, the SDF Chairman, who is expected to rule over the Mochiggle-Asapngu statement for the National Organizing Secretary portfolio had remained mute. Even the holding of a National Executive Committee, NEC to resolve the worry, initially programmed was suddenly cancelled. Today, SDF has no national organizing secretary.
Critics say the delay by Fru Ndi to reach a decision is because he is afraid to be ridiculed for having reduced SDF to a North West affair. Ntarinkon sources however hinted Chronicle that Fru Ndi is bent to see Mochiggle Vanigansen become the National Organizing Secretary. Presently, he manages the SDF printing press “Vision Press” in Bamenda. A former cadre in the defunct ministry of Information and Culture, he had remained jobless for several years until he was recently picked to run Vision Printing Press.
Mochiggle is a Fru Ndi stooge and allegedly runs errands for the Chairman. Mochiggle has for an umpteenth time been linked with the ongoing move to destabilize the cooperative credit union. He along with Fru Ndi have been key advocates in their crusade.
Asapngu has been seeking to be retained in the National Organizing Secretary portfolio results were not pronounced at the convention over allegations of a par. Asapngu’s supporters have vowed that once he is dropped, they would pull out from SDF en masse.
No one in South West has taken risk because of SDF like Asapngu. He hails from Lebialem, yet resident in Kumba. He is considered as the strongman of Kumba, given his courageous moves. He fought hard during the last municipal elections to defend his victory in Kumba II; reason why he is mayor.
Commentators hold that even for the sake of geopolitical balance, Asapngu not Mochiggle should be made the National Organizing Secretary. The new NEC is criticized for being dominated by North Westerners, who hold key positions the chairman Fru Ndi is NW just like the Secretary General Elizabeth Tamanjong. Even Clement Wanki, her vice is NW. the Vice National Treasurer, Pa Joseph Atekwana is NW, just as the Communication Officer, Annembom Munjo and Financial Secretary, Hon Yoyo Emmanuel. To therefore make Mochiggle as National Organizing Secretary, would be too much for the NW and therefore kill that national character which SDF pretends to represent; commentators hold.
Whatever crime Fru Ndi has against Asapngu, the same commentators hold, he should reach a compromise. Many have questioned who Mochiggle is and from what constituency he belongs. Chronicle is aware that he hails from Bali Nyongha, yet is seldom spotted influencing political activities there.
