UBa: Dr. Lukong Kenneth Under Strict Surveillance!

- New Officials Installed August 16
By Tegha Otega
Almost 90% of those Chronicle spoke to last week, opined that Dr. Kenneth Lukong, former Director of the Higher Technical Teachers’ Training College, HTTTC or popularly called ENSET, has been an actor. Even sources at the Vice Chancellor’s office, at the University of Bamenda confessed to Chronicle that Lukong is a mental case. He was replaced last week as the interim Director of HTTTC with Prof Akuma Daniel Akuma. Yet, allegations that Dr. Lukong had already committed himself into the entrance into the 2013 academic year for HTTTC candidates have been pre-occupying. Accordingly, ahead of the installation of newly appointed officials at UBa, expected for Thursday August 16, 2012, Dr. Kenneth Lukong has an axe to grind.
By press time, Chronicle gathered that there had been a secret web planted to unveil the malpractices of Dr. Lukong. Prior to his replacement, Chronicle learnt that Lukong had been aghast with the transparency of Prof Tafah Edokat, Vice Chancellor of the University of Bamenda, UBa; that for an umpteenth time, Lukong had boastfully averred how this UBa VC had been at his heels.
Following Chronicle’s investigations, UBa authorities have been investigating allegations, that Dr. Lukong has already received ‘bribe’ from would-be students into this year’s ENSET entrance, even though it had not been launched. It is alleged that at least 20 culprits had paid-in some 1.5 million FCFA each to be secured places.
Dr. Lukong’s anomalies at UBa, have been more pronounced with his destitution. He is being quoted to have openly boasted how his bank account is above 500 million FCFA. Worse still, allegations are rife that he is putting up a hotel in his native Nso and had long acquired plots within Tubah, to erect mammoth students’ residential quarters.
Sacked by presidential decree last August 6, 2012, Lukong is said to have found himself in a fix: what would he do with those he had allegedly received ‘bribe’ from to be admitted? What would be his role after the installation of his successor?
Sources at the University of Bamenda Vice Chancellor’s office hinted Chronicle last weekend that all of the newly appointed officials would be installed this Thursday, August 16, 2012. It is expected that the following would be installed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tafah Edokat:
* Deputy Vice Chancellor incharge of Teaching, Professionalization and Development of Information and Communication Technology: Ze Amvela Etienne (formerly Vice Rector in charge of Internal Control and Evaluation at the University of Yaounde 1).
* Deputy Vice Chancellor incharge of Research, Internal Cooperation and Relations with the business world, Prof Ndiva Mbua Fritz (formerly Vice Dean incharge of Studies and Students Affairs at the Faculty of Education at the University of Buea);
* Deputy Vice Chancellor incharge of Internal Control and Evaluation, Prof John Dashako (formerly Vice Dean incharge of Research and Cooperation at Yaounde II Soa);
* Registrar, Prof. Mbofung Carl Moses Funtong (formerly Director of the Higher National Institute of Agro-Industry at the University of Ngaoundere).
Also, other officials expected to be installed on Thursday August 16, 2012 at the University of Bamenda include: Alice Tang (Special Adviser); Roseline Jua (Academic Affairs Officer); Mboh Patrice Lumumba (Bursar); Galega Sangma (Students Affairs Officer) and Pettang Christpin (Development, Physical Plant and Infrastructure Officer).
Other laudable and key actors to be installed would also include; Prof Lukong Cornelius Fai (Director of ENS), Prof Akuma Daniel Akuma (Director of ENSET) and Prof Christopher Kuaban (Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences).
