Wum, chief town of Menchum division in the
North West Region was thrown into a stupor a fortnight ago. A dramatic scene at
the Wum council, involving an SDF National Executive Committee, NEC member was
more exciting. Ewi Kang Elizabeth, the SDF NEC member and parliamentary postulant
created drama when a marriage she had to contract/endorse with her husband,
ended in disarray.
According to an
informant, Elizabeth Kang had mobilized friends and relatives, who stormed the
Wum council hall for her wedding. Food and drinks had been prepared for the
event. Allegations are even rife that the SDF chairman, a close
collaborator/acquaintance to Elizabeth
offered a bull.
The event began
on a jubilant note but then, when the moment of the marriage vows came, Chronicle was told that Elizabeth opted for monogamy while the
husband, Ewi stood but for polygamy. There was tension in the council hall
given that both parties were unable to agree. The presiding deputy mayor then
urged them to decide. When both could not settle on a premise, the occasion was
called-off.
Ewi Elizabeth
had long been married to Mr. Ewi. Yet, several allegations had surrounded the
sincerity of their marriage. Chronicle
gathered that to make things more concrete, both resolved to authenticate the
marriage. Yet, it ended in a hoax.
Elizabeth is
renowned for leading Aghem women (Ndogho fumbi); an SDF NEC member who aspires
to become a member of parliament even though her educational level is equated
with that of Fru Ndi: for an umpteenth time, she has been linked with secret
dealings with CPDM: Like she having decorated the grandstand for May 20
celebrations and the gala, though SDF had a policy of boycott.
