Here Are The Projected Configurations & Prospective Gov’t Delegates
By IO Fossung
Another election period is at hand. This is the period when the Head of State signs some major decrees to carve new geopolitical maps. It is highly probable that amongst the numerous decrees linked with the upcoming municipal/legislative elections would be that re-carving constituencies and creating city councils. Already, the Buea and Kumbo councils have been tipped as city councils to have appointed government delegates.
Overt and covert moves for this to be actualized, Chronicle learnt have reached an advanced stage. For an umpteenth time, the Bui I CPDM has made proposals to the Head of State to carve out Kumbo as a city council. Even though critics say the population of Kumbo does not tie-in with the intentions to see it split, they further advance that it would be a strategy to break the jinx of the SDF, with Mayor Njong Donatus as Kumbo Mayor.
The case of Buea is even clearer. The growth and transformation of the town by its present Mayor, Charles Mbella Moki has not been doubted. Buea today is far above the rural setting it used to be. It is not only the seat of administration in the South West, but its growth has been precipitated by the University it host.
Proponents to see Buea become a city council have varied reasons why they advance for this. Already, the projected configuration of a decree to split Buea is being muted by Buea residents. Accordingly, Buea would be split into 3 sub divisional councils to make it a city council.
Buea I would constitute the administrative area of Buea town, Bokwaongo, right up to Bongo Square with its surrounding areas. The Buea town market, the upcoming Bokwaongo and White House stalls would generate income for the council area.
Buea II would stretch from Soppo right down to Molyko. The University would invariably fall under Buea II. While for Buea III, its headquarters is tipped for Muea. Other areas to constitute Buea Iii would be Bomaka, Mile 17 Park, mile 16- Bohfamba, right up to Mile 14 bording Tiko sub division.
It his highly probable that should this be actualized with a Government Delegate in place, the man tipped would be Charles Mbella Moki, the present mayor of Buea and CPDM section president for Fako II. Should this come to pass, then it would replicate the Limbe situation, where Motanga Andrew Monjimba is the government delegate.
The case of Kumbo is even more exciting, even though as a strategy to eclipse the SDF. Kumbo I has its projected headquarters at Tobin, with areas like Meluf, Kikiakom, Melim, Bambui, Njanwue to make up the sub divisional council. For Kumbo II with headquarters at Mveh, would constitute Hausa quarters, Bamkika’a, Romanja and others, while Kumbo III could be headquartered at Kimbu with its surrounding quarters. The issue of who becomes government delegate may be very dicey, given the multitude of candidates lobbying for it (Affair a suivre…)
