Why Tchiroma Bars Press Organs On Marafa’s Letter

Issa Tchiroma Bakari, Biya’s Minister of Communication and government’s spokesman has taken a stand. Following four (4) letters issued by Marafa Hamidou Yaya, the former Minister of State, Tchiroma met the press last week one of his recommendations was that journalists should refrain from publishing Marafa’s letters.
Tchiroma acknowledged the fact that Marafa had indicated that he has 500 documents to send out. Yet, with barely four (4) Tchiroma asked ‘Do you know what would be the next?’
Chronicle gathered that because the content of the previous four was relating, there was need to stop him before he gets into the unexpected. To this, Tchiroma exploited last week’s press briefing to caution journalists to desist from publishing what he termed as Marafa’s diatribes’.
Tchiroma hailed the North West Fons Union, NOWEFU and the House Speaker, Cavaye for exceptionally endorsing President Biya’s anti-corruption fight. Worthy to note, that a fortnight ago, NOWEFU, led by Fon Teche its president, were received by Tchiroma with a message destined to President Paul Biya.
Last week’s press briefing was phenomenal for one thing: Tchiroma entertained questions in English. It was Richard Nkwang Kometa, a cadre at the national bilingual daily, Cameroon Tribune who questioned to be counseled.
Minister Tchiroma exploited the press brief to caution journalists to be non vigilant and preserve peace. He further advised that Marafa’s letters should henceforth be dumped into the dust bin.
On the issue of Marafa’s 4th letter, Tchiroma said he announced 500 files. Yet, he has released just four. He questioned what he rest would entail. He said Marafa merely wants to mislead and manipulate the naivety and credibility of the Cameroonian people. He cautioned that Cameroonian have to stand against this.
Tchiroma refused to qualify Marafa as a ‘dangerous’. He said Marafa was not even a threat to the peace which Cameroon enjoys today. He urged Cameroonians to fight to preserve peace and to shun all what Marafa pontificates.
The government spokesman further opined that contrary to opinion that Marafa was unleashing his letters from Kondengui, it was less so. He quoted the third, which he said was signed at Kondengui whereas he (Marafa) has already been transferred to the Gendarmerie headquarters (SED).
It is expected that after Tchiroma’s conclave last week, Marafa would have no leeway to channel his letters. Tchiroma even suspected that Marafa had long planted his network for the nails before being incarcerated. Reason why press organs were embargoed to retard propagating Marafa’s letters.
