Pressure Mounts For Kumbo To Be Transformed Into City Council

Stage Set For Mayor Njong To Face Hon Banadzem in Parliamentary Race
A plan of action has been set-up to carve out new administrative unites in Cameroon. This, Chronicle gathered, would have been effected if municipal/legislative elections were not postponed to next year. Chronicle learnt that a presidential decree would have not only created new divisions, sub division and council areas, but also city councils. The text, Chronicle has been told is on the Head of State’s table and would be released at the verge of the twin election next year. One of the areas to be touched, Chronicle gathered, is Kumbo in Bui division, Prime Minister Philemon Yang’s constituency.
According to an insider, because Bui may be carved out into two (2) divisions, Kumbo town may witness a more plausible transformation. Chronicle learnt that the move to make Kumbo a city council had already reached an advanced stage. Implicitly, Kumbo has been earmarked to be split into three (3) sub divisional councils encompassing Tobin, Mveh and Kimbu.
Chronicle gathered that the move has long been fine-tuned, pending the presidential decree: that Bui local CPDM officials had worked on this, a move allegedly boosted by Prime Minister Philemon Yang. Yang hails from Oku in Bui division. But as Chronicle gathered, should Bui be split into two (2), Oku would be carved out into a separate division, to encompass Noni, Misaje in Donga/Mantung and Fonfuka in Boyo division. This may become the newly carved out division, whose name (appellation) is still kept covert.
The file at the presidency, Chronicle learnt shows how proponents for Kumbo to be split into three (3) sub divisions have varied justifications to advance. According to a hint, this would jettison the predominant SDF sympathy reigning supreme within Kumbo itself. Moreso, the mysterious jinx created by Donatus Fonyuy Njong, SDF Mayor of Kumbo would be crushed.
Chronicle gathered that to beef up the file for Kumbo to become a city council, the justification presented undoubtable.
For Kumbo I, it would have a divisional officer and a council, with headquarters at Tobin. The population of Kumbo I is estimated at 49.000 inhabitants. According to our source, Kumbo I has 15 primary schools, six secondary schools, nine health centres and a district hospital. The Njanwu council market and motor park including the newly constructed Tadu diary industry are found in Kumbo I. This is also where the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO’s) office, the stadium and the Kumbo council complex are located.
Kumbo I with headquarters in Tobin according to the plan, would encompass the areas of Tobin, Meluf, Marem, Kilaiakon, Povitang-taa, Tooy, Yukwi, Ki, Tadu, Mbiim, Puh, Njanwue, Melim, Shangwas, Ntneeg, Bambui, Nkeri.
The Projected Kumbo II sub divisional council would have its headquartes at Mveh. Already, the population is estimated at 53.000 inhabitants, having 17 primary schools, eight secondary schools. For the health services, there is the BBH and three health centres, both government and private.
Mveh is where the Kumbo main market and motorpark and Kikai main market and park are located. There are also two supermarkets within this proposed sub division. The areas encompassed include Mveh, Ndzendwev, Hausa quarter, Njii, Kiyan, Nkavi-ang, Romajia, Bamkika’a, Veh, Kikiakiliaki, Tsenla, Ntonghi, Takia and Kikoo.
For Kumbo III with headquarters at Kimbu, Chronicle learnt that its population is estimated at 48.000 inhabitants. It presently has 18 primary and seven secondary schools. The St Elizabeth Catholic Hospital at Shisong, hosting the Cardiac centre is found here. Also, Kimbo III has four health centres.
This is where the Nso Fon’s palace, the bishops house are situated. The bulk of hotels in Kumbo (7) are found here. Also, the sand and stone quarry, Shimas and a lot more income generating establishments.
Kumbo III is expected to encompass Kimbu, Ntoh, Tantoh, Lun, Ndzetzev, Veda – Aiong, Bakan, Bamfen, Gem, Tsendzev, Mbohtong, Bamdzeng, Kingomen, Nkue, Taadoh, Mbuluf, Shisong-Tiyminkan, Tamngan, Mba, Ndzeen, Gwaar-kang, Robui, Kihiy, Kitiwum, Shuki.
