To Eclipse Marafa’s Men: Cabinet Shake-Up Insight!

What Marafa Hamidou Yaya has done in his letters, has shaken the foundations of the Biya regime. According to intelligence information, having served at the presidency, then as Minister of State in charge of Territorial Administration and Decentralization and a CPDM politbureau member, Marafa was very influential. With his letters, Chronicle gathered that the presidency has been alert to pinpoint all those who rose to prominence, thanks to Marafa’s influence. After the overhaul of regional governors the next to be spotted out are Senior Divisional Officers., SDOs. But before then, Chronicle has been hinted that a cabinet reshuffle is expected within a fortnight.
Who are those Marafa’s men, whom President Biya may want to shove aside? This has been the question. Following Chronicle’s investigations, there are many ministers who rose to grace thanks to Marafa’s influence. The few names cited include Ama Tutu Muna, Minister of Culture (daughter of North West); Hamadou Moustapha of the National alliance of Democratic and Progress, ANDP, Joseph Dion Ngute and even Ngole Philip Ngwese. Yet, the case of Issa Tchiroma has become a concern (read separate stories elsewhere)
There has been a present move to quieten Marafa, following his recent pontifications in his letters. The CPDM Communication scribe, Prof Jacque Fame Ndongo came out with a riposte; there was the staging of CPDM seminars nationwide, culminating in last week’s press conferenceby Issa Tchiroma, Minister of Communication and government spokesman. Yet, in all these (those abeiting Marafa) have not been brought out.
In the case of Amah Tutu, Chronicle gathered it was thanks to Marafa that Amah Tutu came into government. It is even alleged how she boasts how her roots have been planted deep and would never quit government as her detractors want. According to a source, Adrien Kouambo, one time North West Governor had to present Amah Muna’s case to Marafa, who carried it President Biya. Implicitly, Amah had since remained an apostle to Marafa.
Another member of government whom Chronicle gathered lents his entry to Marafa is Hamadou Moustapha, chairman of ANDP. Accordingly, it was thanks to Marafa’s recommendations in 2002 that Moustapha and IsaTchiroma were brought into government in 1992 against the wish of the UNDP chairman, Bello Bouba Maigari.
The impending cabinet shake-up, Chronicle has been told would maintain Philemon Yang as Prime Minister and Head of Government. But those likely to be flushed out include Amah Muna, Hamadou Moustapha, Dion Ngute, Ngole Philip Ngwese and a few others.
Our sources averred that though a minor cabinet shake-up, those to be brought in would be able to thwart the Marafa steam. It is therefore unpredictably as to those actually to be streamlined as ‘Marafa’s men’, though several ministers had since fallen pray to the Epervier net. Even Prof Gervais Mendo Ze, the former CRTV GM, may also be hooked in the next arrest. (affair a suivre…)

  1. President Biya is the Best President Cameroon has ever had. The problem is there are people that want to betray the trust he has given them and they need to be punished severely.
